Top 5 Best Chinese Video Game Characters

After the epicness that was the Beijing Olympic Games opening ceremony, many spelled world dominance for China.Well,if that was true, the fact cannot be more misrepresented in video games.Unlike the movies or tv,Chinese video game characters are rare, and if they do appear at all,it is always as some low level villain.

But great Chinese video game characters exist, not only bearing a great impact in their respective games' storyline but also kicking a$$ along the way.Below are the top 5 best characters to hail from China.

#5. Raiden, Mortal Kombat series

Okay, okay,I confess.I only added him to the list on the basis that his creators stated that Raiden was inspired by Lightining, one of Lo Pan's minions in the cult classic Big Trouble in Little China. While Lightning is undoubtedly Chinese, that is not so with Raiden, whose race remains ambiguous.Nevertheless, his clothes and stages suggest that his blood does belong to a certain Oriental nation.

#4. Marshall Law, Tekken series

Bruce Lee certainly made a big impression on the United States, way before Jackie Chan. His movies spawned countless imitators, and revived interest in martial arts worldwide. The games industry was not spared either.Though Tekken was the last to incorporate a Bruce Lee lookalike into their game, their version is the most loyal to the hero.Marshall Law shouts like Bruce does when he's fighting, and his moves are clearly inspired by Bruce's movies.Plus, that moustache is pretty badass.

#3. Fei Long, Street Fighter series

Firstly I apologise that I had to feature two Bruce Lee lookalikes. But can you blame me?The games industry, much like Hollywood,is not so keen on representing the Chinese, much less make them leading material.Fei Long, though not having much of an impact on SF's canon, has been regularly appearing since his debut in SF 2.Though the inspiration is clear,Fei Long's moves have been drifting off Bruce Lee as time passes and having new skills. But the one factor that casts him above Marshall Law is his new move in Super SF 4,the famous One Inch Punch.

#2. Chun Li, Street Fighter series

C'mon,do you actually think I'd exclude her from this list? After all, she's probably the most popular character behind Ryu(check the 4chan boards.Wait, don't),even starring in her own, though terrible, movie. Her moves are also devastating, especially the Spinning Bird Kick, which has been the bane of my SF playing experience besides Seth's SNK Boss Syndrome. She also holds an unbeatable record against Vega, who always seem to lose to her because he does not possess the ability to shut up and finish her off.Her impossibly huge thighs make great gaming related jokes too.

#1. Wu Zi Mu, Grand Theft Auto:San Andreas

Wu Zi Mu is,without a shadow of a doubt, the best Chinese vid game character ever. Why?Because he was a better shooter than Big Smoke when he's accompanying you on missions,he beats CJ in video games and racing and he helped CJ take down the Las Venturas mob, opening the Four Dragons,a damn successful casino. And he did it all blind.Of course, there is a faint trace of developers Rockstar submitting to racial humour,as he regularly bumps into walls and wins card games and golf matches with the help of his gang. However,he was loyal to your character thoughout the events of the game, and I looked forward to completing his missions and seeing him in cutscenes.

So what do you think?Did I leave any characters that should have deserved a mention?Do you agree with my choice?Post all bouquets and brickbats in the comments or cbox.
