Local Tv Stars vs Bloggers: Market Influence?

This is going to be wordy, but worth thinking about, okay?

Recently, I've come to notice one thing about people in this era. Tech-savvy people like you and me. Who has a Facebook account. Who tweets.

We face the laptop/computer and watch online videos more than we do the TV, we read blogs more than we do novels and magazines. I remember mentioning an up-and-coming actress to a few friends and they were like "Er...who? Sorry I don't watch TV"

Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm like that. Unless I'm watching a show in which I appear in (which will not be found on xinmsn, like UMMI), I hardly ever sit in front of a TV and actually turn it on. I do have a few websites which I frequently visit, quite a few of them blogs. I'm sure those of you who are actually reading this, are like me, and have your favourite bloggers whom you check on every other day.

Which brings me to my next point.

Are bloggers the next celebrities? Sure, exposure isn't as high as, if, say you were featured on the 9pm show on Channel 8. After all, most of us grew up watching 第八播道, or what's known as 八频道 now. The older folks definitely prefer watching watching the local channel 8 than Starhub Cable TVB channels. Because it's something we're so used to, right? But if you're not THE lead actress/actor, will people know you? How many of you can name the short-haired girl in that 泳闯琴关 show who acted as the fantastic swimmer and friend of Felicia Chin and later stole her boyfriend? Do you know her name? That was quite a heavy role. Or how about the Chinese actress in the Unriddle, Ah Ni?

Okay, do you know Xiaxue, Sheylara, Dawn Yang, LadyIronChef (he is one of the top food bloggers in Singapore, mind you), Xuesha, Naomi, Qiuting, Silver (duh!!!! You say no, you better scram now or I will personally come after you with a broom and smack you head with it.), Peggy (6 pegs), Peggy Heng, yada yada....and the list goes on... I've just listed a few of the top bloggers (eh hem, in my eyes, I am good. I will always believe I am good, and can be better.), and if you are a blog reader, you SHOULD ALREADY know them.

Now, supposing Xiaxue does an advert for Essential (which she already does la). You read the ad post, it arouses interest in you, you actually become quite curious and chances are, if it's not outof your budget, you will (or would already have) bought it. In maybe both the pink AND the orange series. True? You read my review on the eyebrow embroidery. If you have sparse eyebrows, because of my review, you will actually consider doing the eyebrow embroidery yourself. No?

Now, if you see Chen Zhi Cai or Ben on Beijing 101's or Yunnam's adverts, will that make you stop and consider, even if you are balding? Or rather, will seeing Chen Zhi Cai or Ben on that ad make you consider? Chances are, if you ever do consider, it's not because of them. Will seeing Jeanette Aw (Sorry dear, I'm just stating an example, I like you personally, I really do!) in the OSIM ad make me want to buy the leg massager? Or because she endorses New Moon abalone, I go buyalso~ No ma~ Unless you're her fan then I bo way gong la! But normal people like you and me. Will we?

I still don't see the link between Dai Yang Tian and the Berocca or whatever supplement he is endorsing. If you get Vincent Weng, well, maybe, or even someone with a good body like Qi YuWu, but DYT? Will you buy JUST BECAUSE DYT endorses it?

I'm starting to think the trend is going to be pro-bloggers (credible ones, of course, with integrity). Tell me what you think?

P/S. Eh mind you hor, NOT anyone who has a blog can call themselves a blogger. It takes time AND effort to be a credible one which people enjoy reading, and which they will keep coming back to.

RisingBlogger,
That Silver Girl
