The answer to the question could turn into reality soon,if the bigwigs at Warner Bros. give the go-ahead.Kevin Tancharoen, famed director of the Mortal Kombat:Rebirth fan short years ago, recently released a pitch piece for a new movie adaptation of the notoriously violent video game.Looking at the vid,he seemed to be leaning towards the grittiness and realism not unheard of in thrillers like Saw or Se7en,a far cry from the campiness of the first two movies.
Jeri Ryan, who portrays Sonya Blade in the vid, posted this on Twitter:
“Okay, so… Mortal Kombat. It’s not a game trailer. Actually was made for the director to sell WB on his vision for a reimagined MK film. [...] I did it as a favor to a friend. No idea yet what WB’s reaction to it was. And I’m not sure how you can contact WB to push them to make it. But you guys are resourceful…! ;-)”
With the success of The Prince of Persia, does this signal the coming of age of video game movies to be taken seriously in the same vein as comic book movies?Maybe not,but I am looking forward to watching Scorpion and Subzero duke it out on the big screen.
MAKE IT HAPPEN,WB.
